There are moments in life that stay with you forever. For me, this Porsche became one of them.

I’d dreamed of owning a 911 since I was a little girl. I used to stop whatever I was doing whenever one drove past, promising myself that one day I’d have one of my own. It took years, plenty of patience and a lot of determination, but eventually that dream became reality.

People often ask me about my favourite drive. It wasn’t a mountain pass or a famous road.

It was this evening in Robin Hood’s Bay.

The sun was beginning to disappear below the horizon, the sea was almost completely still and I pulled into The Bay Inn car park simply because I didn’t want the drive to end. I remember sitting on the stone wall with a drink in my hand, turning around every few minutes just to look back at the car. I couldn’t quite believe it was mine.

Whenever I think of this Porsche, I think of that evening.

If it had a smell, it would be salty sea air drifting through the open window, mixed with warm leather and just the faintest hint of a warm flat-six after a long drive.

The feeling it gives me is difficult to explain. It isn’t excitement. It isn’t speed. It’s contentment.

It reminds me that some dreams are worth waiting for and that sometimes the best journeys are the ones where you aren’t in a hurry to arrive anywhere at all.

Every time I lock the garage after a drive, I still look back over my shoulder one last time.

I hope I always will.
